I am so blessed. When I think about my life, I cannot think of one more thing that I desire to be added to it, save for a deeper intimacy with the God to whom I owe all of my joy.God has given me many wonderful gifts, none of which I have earned or deserve in any way. There is one gift that I cherish so much that I have dedicated an entire blog to expressing publically my gratefulness for him. I want to take a few moments and talk about my husband.
I have no idea how to express how thankful I am for God bringing him into my life and for giving him a heart that cares for me as his does. From the moment I met David, I felt an alligance to him that I cannot explain except that it came from God. And the more I grew to know him, even as just a friend from at distance, the more I realized that I didn't want to do life without him.
Marriage has always been something I could take or leave. Those who know me know that I am independent, driven, goal-oriented and passionate about the Lord because He is the truest thing I know. Over the course of my years of relationships, I learned a lot about myself and how to love well, but I also came to the conclusion that it might be best for me to serve God alone...after one relationship in particular, I walked away with so many wounds and regrets that I feared ever entering another romance because of how close I came to losing myself and losing sight of God's will for my life. I would rather serve God uninhibited and alone than to settle for less than God's best for my life just to have companionship. So basically, marriage I could take or leave...but David, I could not take leaving.
David is a champion of a man. The definition of a champion is "a supreme victor in contest; a defender, supporter, or promoter of somebody or something," and I believe nothing describes him better. He is the only man I've ever wanted to follow. I am a natural leader, but I cannot describe how even more natural it feels to submit to his decision-making abilities than for me to figure life out on my own. The key is this: He seeks to please the One true God, in everything, even when it is hard. David is not my Savior, nor do I look to him as such. He also cannot satisfy the deepest longing of my soul--only Jesus Christ can do that. But he is the man that God has given me to help and serve for the rest of my earthly life, and I cannot dream up a better man to be led by than him.
David is a champion of character, and this sets him apart from most men who live for themselves. I once heard that true success is attained when a man is respected most by those who know him the best. I have only known David for four years, only had the privilege of dating him nine months and have only been married to him just shy of 3 weeks, but I can testify that every day, I become more amazed at the man he is. He has his shortcomings, but so do I. We've learned that the best way to have thriving relationship is to expect very little from one other, to be thankful for anything the other gives and to give lots and lots of grace.
David is a champion at loving me well. Every day, I feel too blessed to be his wife. This blog is a very inadequate means of my attempts of telling the world how much I appreciate his presence in my life. David and I desire our marrige to mirror the love that Christ has for His bride, the church, and so I want to bring my gratitude to life through my writings here, since I know my human tendency to take God's greatest gifts for granted.
